Editor's Corner

I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Kaden Thomas. I'm just one of the editors of science fiction/fantasy, thriller, and horror novels here at SandStarr Publications.

At SandStarr Publications, we're passionate about books. We love reading them, and enjoy producing them. One of our missions here is to make sure that writers are developing their natural talent and mastering their craft. We're not just about accepting or rejecting submissions. Whether you are a signed author with us or not, we want to make sure that you are the best writer you can be. This is why we supply Writer's Tips, forums, blogs, and other resources that are invaluable to you as a writer.

The Editor's Corner is a section that you will see consistently updated with valuable information regarding submission guidelines, frequently asked questions that you are asking us, and advice - whether you are submitting your work to us or another publisher. You will see many of our editors frequenting this section and giving their two cents.

If you are a writer of science fiction/fantasy, thriller, or horror novels and you have a question about submissions in general, or any other questions you would like to ask, my door is always open.

You can e-mail me at: kaden@sandstarrpublications.com

                                   Sincerely,
                               Kaden Thomas
One of the most common questions that I'm asked has to be, "What makes good drama?" I'm most likely asked this because I am the editor of drama and teen fiction books for SandStarr Publications, and if there is anything I know, it's good drama.

My answer to this question is usually the same. If you are interested in writing great drama then the elements you'll need are complex characters and a structured plot. Juicy twists and turns are also welcome.

One thing to remember about drama fiction is that most of the time, it won't be as fast-paced as an action thriller novel or horror novel. In general, drama has a slower pace and is meant to mirror real life. If it seems that the pace of your novel is slow, know that this is to be expected to some extent. Some readers appreciate a slower-paced novel. This isn't me giving you the green light to submit a piece of work that is boring and lifeless. You still want your book to be a page-turner that is difficult for a reader to put down.

If you truly want to know what makes good drama, just think of your life - to the tenth power. We have a lot of tools at your disposal here on the SandStarr Publications website: a page dedicated to giving you Writer's Tips, resources, and so on. If you are in need of advice, don't hesitate to contact me. We love to read, the majority of us here like to write, and can literally talk about the craft of writing all day long. If you are interested in submitting a piece of work, be sure to read our Submission Guidelines. If you have general questions on submissions, you can send an e-mail to: submissions@sandstarrpublications.com. if you have questions that are specific to drama and teen fiction, you can e-mail me directly. My e-mail address is: lily@sandstarrpublications.com. I look forward to your questions and comments. Until next time, happy reading!

                                                Sincerely,
                                              Lily Spencer

As the editor of romance and paranormal romance here at SandStarr Publications, I have had the opportunity to read some incredible manuscripts. I am surprised time and time again by the talent that writers possess. In addition to being an editor, I am also a writer. I can understand the painstaking process that you writers go through when putting a manuscript together, and can understand how it can be frustrating to receive a generic template of an e-mail or snail mail response letting you know that for some reason or another, your work isn't good enough.

This is something that you can be sure you won't receive when submitting your work to SandStarr Publications, and that isn't just because we're a print-on-demand publisher. It's also not because we accept any submission we're given - we don't.

However, we are a publisher that cares about writers. We ultimately want you to succeed as a writer, whether it is at our publishing company or another publishing company. Whether or not we are the right publishing company for you will depend on what your needs are as a writer, but something we offer that many publishing companies do not is a fresh perspective on your manuscript.

If we don't accept your manuscript, we will give you detailed reasons why we can't accept your manuscript and provide you with feedback to help improve the manuscript that you're sending out. This is not an industry standard; this is something that we take pride in doing because we know that you have poured your heart and soul into what you've written, and we respect all submissions that are sent to us. Your submission will be no different.

Romance is a very popular genre, and we are always looking for fresh material. If you have decided that we are the publishing house you'd like to sign with, don't be shy. Make sure that your submission meets our criteria (by checking our Submission Guidelines page) and send us your submission today!
