There are several print-on-demand publishing companies that will accept any manuscript, no matter what shape it's in because their authors are paying them for their services. However, we don't follow this code of conduct. Besides the fact that we have a reputation to protect, we want authors to be proud to work with us. We want to be known for providing readers with quality reading material. For this to happen, there are certain standards that we have to enforce on the submissions that we receive.
We are currently accepting submissions for fiction and inspirational non-fiction. There are several guidelines that should be followed when you're submitting your work to us, and those are as follows:
* The work that you send us should be typed in a commonly used word processing program such as Microsoft Word.
* The work that you send us should be typed in one file. If each chapter of your work is in a separate file, you will need to make sure that the entire work is in one file prior to sending.
* Your work should be free of glaring errors and typos. We will correct up to fifty errors free of charge. If there are more errors than that, your submission will be denied unless we have a strong interest in the work. In the event that we are interested in your work and it has many errors, we will send you a quote for copyediting costs prior to accepting the submission. You would also have the option of securing your own editor.
* Your submission must be at least 50,000 words in length. Most word processing programs have a Word Count feature that you can use to check the amount of words in your work.
* The work that you submit doesn't have to be professionally laid out prior to you sending it to us; that is what we're here for. We will assign the page numbers and author name/title headers to the pages. We will also add the copyright page and author's biography, if you supply one.
* If you submit artwork that you wish to be on the cover of the book, you have to be sure that you are the owner of the rights to the work. If you are not the owner, then you have to be sure that you have secured permission to use the artwork. There are many disputes currently going on this very minute, because an artist's work was manipulated and passed off as someone else's. Your Standard Publishing Package includes a simple, professional quality cover. If you want a more detailed cover, we also offer Artist Referral Services free of charge.
* The cover artwork that you send to us should be in the form of a high quality .JPG or .BMP file. The artwork for each cover (front and/ or back cover) should measure to 5.5" in width and 8.5" in height. This file image needs to be 300 DPI. If the author's name and title haven't been applied to the front cover artwork that you send us, we can apply that for you. We will contact you to make sure this is what you want.
* Below, we will list what needs to be included with your submission:
- Your work, saved in a commonly used word processing program on a CD, flash drive, or other method of computer file storage
- Your signed author's contract, which we will e-mail or mail to you upon request
- A letter introducing yourself, your work, and any other information that we need to know. Make sure to include your ideas of how you'd like the cover to look
- A check, money order, or credit card number included on your author's contract that will serve as payment for your one-time setup fee (the current setup cost can always be found on the Services Offered page)
- A summary of your book
- A brief author's biography that you would like to be included in your novel. Specify to us whether you would like this biography to show up inside of the book or on the back cover. If you don't advise us of this preference, by default the author's biography will show up in the book's interior and a summary of the book will be included on the back cover.
Be advised that the work you submit to us, you will not receive back. This is true whether or not we publish your work. Do not send us your only copy of the work.
The Submission Process
It helps an author to know exactly what to expect from his or her publisher. The submission process is fairly simple. Unlike many other publishers, we will inform you of whether or not we would like to proceed with your submission within two weeks of receiving the work. Depending on the quality of work you send us, you could receive your first proof copy within 4-6 weeks of submission! The better prepared your submission is, the quicker you will receive your proof copy. After you receive your proof copy, you will look it over and advise us of any changes you would like to make. Your Standard Publishing Package includes up to two proof copies. If there are still a few subtle changes that need to be made to the work, we will make those changes and send you another proof copy within 2-4 weeks. Additional proof copies will cost $15.00. Once you have sent us your proof approval form, your book will be available through Amazon and other online bookstore outlets within two months. If you have any questions for us during this process, we are here for you. Use the form on the Contact Page and allow us 24-48 hours to respond.
In the event that your submission is not accepted, we will send you a letter, along with your check or money order if you sent one. In the letter, we will inform you of the reason why the submission wasn't accepted. Often, the submission just needs a bit more work or attention. We do welcome re-submissions, so don't be disheartened if your work isn't accepted the first time we receive it.
